The Counselling Relationship

Psychodynamic Counselling is a relationship whereby you and the counsellor can think together to try to understand what you are experiencing and make sense of your thoughts, feelings, reactions and patterns in yourlife. Your present life can be influenced by your past life and the counsellor can help you make these links and explore how they affect you now. Through an understanding of yourself change can take place and lead to a better quality of life.

Initially, we will meet for an assessment session. You may feel anxious when you come to counselling and not know what to expect; these feelings are normal and can be shared and any initial questions you may have about counselling or confidentiality can be raised at this time. It is also an opportunity for both parties to decide if this is the most appropriate form of therapy for you. At this time, a contract will be arranged, agreeing the number of sessions, arrangements for pay and missed sessions and any safety issues.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is an important aspect of the relationship and in this respect I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics. Any questions regarding confidentiality can be discussed at the assessment stage.

Safety

I aim to ensure the safety of both client and counsellor throughout the course of counselling
